1200 Crown Colony - Quincy, MA

When originally approached by Bridge Investment Group for a full building repositioning at 1200 Crown Colony Drive, the overarching mantra was to create a narrative of place. The resulting design not only transformed a tired 1980’s era building into a modern workplace, but also tells the story of the rich history of Quincy through architectural enhancements, materials, textures, accessories and graphics.

The history of Quincy’s shipbuilding and granite quarries is echoed in the main atrium’s new stonework, riveted column details, and custom metal coffee bar. A custom truss system was added to the atrium space to reduce the scale and create a feeling of intimacy above new stadium seating, and is also a nod to the underbelly of a ship’s construction. The colonial history of Quincy inspired a modern ‘fireplace’ hearth in the main café. Rich textiles and a wide variety of furniture enhance the café and create a ‘living room’ feel that will facilitate both socialization and employee collaboration.

The main lobby, elevator lobby, common areas, café, fitness center and locker rooms where were completely renovated with clean, contemporary finishes that speak to the area’s past but position the property as a modern workplace. Our team enhanced the design with custom graphics throughout the premises. Historical photographs of Quincy shipyards flank the elevator lobby, and the café area’s banquette seating is highlighted with historic railroad drawings that are screen printed on wood panels. Custom metal and wood shelving in the café space houses artifacts inspired by colonial history such as portraits of John and Abigail Adams.

The repositioning of 1200 Crown Colony Drive creates a truly unique office building experience unlike anything in Greater Boston. The building’s modern amenities and new technologies are designed to attract new innovative companies who will add a new story to the region’s rich history.
